8 ways to live intentionally this fall
Hello my darlings, after another fabulous summer we have been warmly welcomed with fall! What a wonderful time of year, truly. I really can’t choose what my favorite season is because each of them is just so special to me. That said, fall has indeed grown on me more and more throughout the years. I just love the cozy vibes, the rainy days, the shameless baking of a treat every week (or every day!), and everything in between. Plus, let’s not forget how fun it is to finally pull out those clothes that have been hanging in our closets for the past six months and make them feel new again!
To me, September feels like January 1st in a sense, since we are more or less programmed to live that way. Sometimes it can feel a bit hectic trying to figure everything out again with only a few months of the year left, and wanting to reach all of those goals we may or may not have been putting off. But let’s try to forget about that for a moment. Instead, let’s give ourselves some grace. Let’s sit back, stop worrying so much about the past or the future, and focus on the simple present moments we can create for ourselves.
With that said, I created a mini checklist for fall that will hopefully inspire us all to get up and enjoy those simple autumnal moments before the season comes and goes. Because, depending on where you live, it can definitely pass by quickly before those winter storms start rolling in.
So without further ado, let’s get into the fall to-dos of 2025:
museum hop moments
There are museums in every city, whether you think so or not. Living in Europe, it’s a bit easier to stumble across a museum on nearly any corner without having to walk too far. But growing up in the States, I know they’re there too — you just have to find them! For this day, I’d suggest getting up early (or, if you find some museums open late, that’s also a vibe), and throwing on a cozy autumnal outfit that makes you feel like you’re in a French film, walking from one museum to the next.
Choose at least three museums or historical places to visit and really take them in with intention. Bring a notebook and jot down your favorite details, or if you want a more romantic moment, take a book to read in the quietness of the space. People-watch and notice which pieces of art get the most attention — or head to the ones no one is paying attention to and find something you enjoy in them. Whatever suits your fancy, just don’t rush. Take a few hours to soak in art and history — something we often forget to do.
intentional movie marathon
Of course, a movie marathon isn’t anything out of the blue for a fall checklist. But here’s how to make it more intentional: pick 2–3 movies that share a vibe so the good feelings carry from one film to the next.
For example, if you’re into romantic comedies, line up 13 Going on 30, The Princess Diaries, and 10 Things I Hate About You.
To add another layer, match snacks or a meal to at least one of the films. Watching The Parent Trap? Grab Oreos and peanut butter. Watching Ratatouille? You guessed it, try your hand at making ratatouille. It gives you a chance to try something new in the kitchen while also elevating your cozy night in.
fall flavors in the kitchen
Bake something seasonal (pumpkin loaf, spiced cookies, or even a warming curry).
Winter may get the reputation as baking season since it’s so cold and cozy, but I truly believe autumn is where it’s at. I love warm fall flavors filling up my kitchen. Think baked sweet potatoes sprinkled with cinnamon, tossed into a hearty kale salad. A perfect pumpkin loaf you’ve been craving all year. Maybe even a spiced curry with homemade pita bread. There are so many seasonal spices perfect for this time of year — don’t let the season pass without using them.
dinner for one
Take yourself to that restaurant you’ve always wanted to try. Order slow, savor everything.
Yes, this can be done any time of year, but fall feels like the perfect season for it. Many of us forget we have the freedom to treat ourselves to a solo dinner — and for others, the idea can feel intimidating. I get it. But why knock it until you try it?
A pro tip: choose a restaurant with interesting interior details. That way, if you don’t want to pick up your phone the whole time, you can enjoy the art or little trinkets around you. Order a glass of wine or your favorite drink, treat yourself to an appetizer and maybe even dessert. Savor each bite, avoid your phone, and enjoy your own company. You’ll be surprised how lovely it feels to simply sit with yourself.
local treasure hunt
Buy a vintage magazine or book from a secondhand shop, then read it with a coffee.
Thrifting has become a huge thing, but instead of buying an entire bag full of finds, go with the intention of finding one special item. A vintage magazine or an old book to read at a café feels romantic and purposeful. Maybe pick up a book as a gift for a friend or parent, too. And honestly, is there anything better than the nostalgic smell of an old book?
seasonal café ritual
Head to a local café, order their most “fall” drink, and pair it with a sweet treat.
If you’re like me, you eye the pastries every time but resist “just because.” Let this be your sign to indulge. Order the pumpkin-spiced latte with the pumpkin cream cheese muffin. Walk to your coziest café, bring a book or a craft, and make it a little ritual for yourself.
closet shift
Add one item that makes you feel like autumn: a scarf, tote bag, statement glasses, etc.
This one was inspired by my own lucky thrift find — the most perfect leather trench coat for just ten euros in Florence. Sometimes it’s not about a huge shopping spree, but about that one magical piece that makes the whole season feel elevated. So thrift that jacket, buy those loafers you’ve been eyeing, or grab the playful fall glasses you’ve seen all over Pinterest. Let your wardrobe shift with the season.
fall escape
Plan a trip: a weekend in the mountains, or even a nearby train ride for Gilmore Girls vibes.
Just because summer’s over doesn’t mean travel has to be. Don’t underestimate the charm of a fall trip — the leaves changing, the chill in the air, the cozy vibes. You don’t need to fly somewhere far. A quick train ride to a nearby city or a weekend in the mountains can feel just as magical. With a little research, you’ll find a destination close by that lets you romanticize the season. Bonus: you could probably check off most of this fall checklist while you’re there.
until next time
Well, those are my eight essential fall activities to either get out (or stay home) and enjoy this season. Fall always feels so fleeting with the holidays right around the corner, so let’s make the most of it and dive into the cozy magic while it’s here.
As always, I’d love to see the content or vibes you’re curating this fall — tag me on Instagram or TikTok, or email me at hello@avalonavenue.com.
