bites & sips in florence
Hello my lovelies, and welcome back. I hope you’re enjoying the sunny spring days wherever you are. Right now, I’m sitting on my patio, sipping an afternoon espresso, listening to my Euro Summer playlist, and thinking about all the lovely food and drinks from my time in Florence.
Italy will always be a place where simple pleasures feel the richest: a sandwich, the sun, an espresso, a moment. It reminded me of all the amazing meals, spritzes, and gelatos I enjoyed during my travels last summer & studying abroad. These places are truly special ones I protect with my whole heart.
If you're visiting Florence, these are the spots you absolutely need to try. I’m sharing my full list from personal experience, hoping it helps make your time there just a little more magical.
where to eat & drink in florence
Brunch & Cafe
breakfast at Melaluca!
Melaleuca: A dreamy brunch spot. Order the cinnamon roll, the Florence benedict, or the egg and toast. You can't go wrong.
Jon Borno: I have to mention this place because I went here every day before class while studying abroad. Always a sweet little spot for a coffee break.
La Milkeria: Perfect if you're craving American vibes or need dairy-free milk options. It was our go-to between classes for an iced latte—a rare find compared to the States!
Alberto e Lapo: Another school-favorite! This was right down the street from my school and in my opinion, one of the best coffees I have had in my life. Quick, simple, and a local Italian feel. Also, you will not want to skip over their pastries!!
Lunch
paninis at the Arno River are never a bad idea!
Gusta Pizza: The pesto pizza is worth every minute of the wait. Ask for the heart-shaped pesto and burrata pizza!
Panini Toscani: Fresh sandwiches right by the Duomo, made with amazing ingredients. They usually offer a little cheese and meat tasting too!
Dinner
the truffle gnocchi from Osteria Santo Spirtio… everything to me
4 Leoni: Famous for its pear ravioli—sweet, savory, and unforgettable.
13 Gobbi: The creamiest vodka sauce rigatoni. So comforting.
Osteria Santo Spirito: The truffle ravioli is rich, flavorful, and unforgettable—and only around 5 euros for the dish!
Osteria de' Peccatori: 5 euro spritz and pizza—casual and perfect after a day out.
Zaza: Cozy and welcoming. Definitely make reservations, especially for this one.
La Giostra: A fancier, iconic dinner spot. The owner is wonderful, and the vibe is so unique.
Acqua Al 2: Cozy and authentic. The pear ravioli here will melt in your mouth.
Tip: Always make dinner reservations about two weeks ahead if you can. And when ordering wine, house wine is always a good and affordable option.
where to find gelato
my fav pistachio gelato I have EVER had
Vivoli Gelato: Go for the affogato—homemade gelato with a shot of espresso.
Perché No: My favorite gelato shop. The fresh strawberry flavor is incredible. Even my Italian professor told me it was her go-to!
Gelateria La Carraia: Their pistachio gelato is everything. Super creamy and flavorful.
Santa Trinita: A beautiful stop for gelato, especially around golden hour.
where to sip
the rooftop at Hotel La Scaletta
Hotel La Scaletta (Al Ponte Vecchio): Rooftop bar with a peaceful view of the Boboli Gardens.
Vivoli Gelato: Yes, again—the affogato counts as a drink and dessert.
View on Art: Rooftop cocktails with an incredible view of the Duomo. Book ahead!
Santa Cocktail Club: Stylish and lively—a great spot for a night out.
Rasputin: A hidden underground speakeasy with fabulous cocktails.
